Visual arts is an option subject which aims to
extend students technical and formal art making skills as well as
their understanding of a range of established art practices and
contexts. Activities are designed to give students experiences in
drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. As students improve
their skills and knowledge they are encouraged to find their own
expression and solutions to art making problems. Photography, based
on learning black and white photographic processes and procedures,
is offered as a separate course at year twelve with the option to
continue into year thirteen with digital photography.

Learning in Music significantly enhances students'
opportunities to contribute culturally to the school and community
by communicating and expressing themselves both in an integrated
way and as a separate valid artistic discipline. By applying the
four strands (i.e. learning the languages of music, developing ideas
in music, communicating and interpreting meaning in music and understanding
music in context) foundations are laid at the Year 9 level allowing
students the opportunities to progress through to Year 13. Courses
offered are NCEA Levels 1 and 2 and 3. A full music itinerant programme is
also offered to students.
