International Students
Hawera High School encourages international fee-paying students and provides them with a quality,
full secondary school programme. In addition students will receive between four and eight hours per week of English Language tutoring in small
groups by an experienced tutor (ESOL) as appropriate.
All students will be guided and assisted by the International Students' Dean and the Director of
International Students. Hawera High School finds extremely suitable homestay placings for students and there is a Homestay Co-ordinator to
assist with any homestay difficulties.
Overall all international students have full access to all the curricular, co-curricular and guidance
facilities of Hawera High School.
Our surrounding area is one of the most beautiful in the country and the region offers many activities
(both cultural and sporting) to make a stay at our school a full and satisfying time.
Hawera
High School is a school of some 850 students that has served the
town of Hawera and the South Taranaki district for eighty years.
A school with a substantial roll, it is able to offer a wide range
of subject choices.
The community is predominantly bicultural, European
and Maori, represented primarily by Nga Ruahine, Ngati Ruanui and
Taurahere (Maori from outside the Taranaki region). The community
is enriched by the presence of a small proportion of diverse ethnic
groups.
The town of Hawera has a population of some 8,000
people. It is very well appointed with a good-sized business district.
Numerous clubs, facilities and organisations exist to provide for
