Google is a good general search engine.

Metacrawler is a search engine with a wide reach.

Open Directory is very useful for reference topics.

Yahooligans is a search engine with an educational focus, and is a good homework resource.

Ask Jeeves for kids is a family friendly, child-oriented search engine.

Altavista is a good, all-purpose search engine.

Ask Jeeves lets you phrase your search as a question.

Direct Hit is a helpful basic search tool. It provides speedy results.

Eduhound is a search tool designed for the US K-12 (Senior High) education market.

Infoseek provides reference databases, field searching, and follow-up searching.

Librarians Index to the Internet is a directory maintained by librarians. It is quite small, but produces high quality results.

Netscape Search is an effective search engine.

Yahoo! is the most popular search tool. It is a human-compiled directory comprised of over one million web site listings.

Educational

Pukeariki provides a wealth of local history,knowledge and art.

WickEd provides links to websites and interactive games relating to mathematics, science, and technology.

Britannica is a search tool for the Encyclopedia. Britannica content, as well as content from other print resources such as magazines and books.

Art Encyclopedia is a great reference site on art.

National Geographic is a great directory site.

Aol at School is a great resource site for mathematics, social studies, science, english and the arts..

Houghton Mifflin Projects for reading, mathematics, social studies, science and online projects.

Te Kete Ipurangi health and physical education is a link to the Ministry of Education's page on health and physical education

Interlink The British Council's Interlink project linked 12 New Zealand schools with 12 schools in Britain for several months during 1997. The students exchanged all kinds of information about their lives and society, and worked co-operatively on projects.

The NZ Government Statistics site provides lots of data on New Zealand.

Peace Corps site provides information on different cultures and lifestyles.

Hyperzine! is an online magazine for kids on the Hilary Commission website, with a graffiti board for messages and news from schools around the country.

Environment

Kiwi Recovery Programme website provides an informative and interactive learning experience. The site includes a schools area, with information about the Kiwi Recovery Programme Education Kit, how schools are using it and other resources available.
