It is our intention to give students and parents as much information as we can so that the students can make well-informed, forward looking decisions on their road to further study or employment. It is important that students are as accurate as they can be when they make their choices. It is often very difficult to get subjects they want when they change their minds in the new year.
Students need to talk to Form Teachers, the Careers Advisor, Guidance Counsellor, Subject Teachers and Heads of Department, before making their final choices.
We urge students to meet deadlines for making their choices.
Hawera High School is a community school that caters for a wide range of students. For this reason we provide a broad range of subject choices and learning experiences and offer a top quality education to all our students covering all the essential learning areas.
Students are encouraged to achieve personal excellence by both studying subjects in depth and by broadening their knowledge, interest and skills in a wide range of subjects. Our senior timetable is structured so that students can study subjects at different levels in the same year.
In Year 9, students are provided with a complete coverage in core learning areas. They also attend introductory courses in a range of options that will be available to them in Years 10 to Year 13. This allows the students to make informed choices as they progress into Year 10 and beyond.
