Hawera High School is a co-educational, Year 9-13 secondary school of approximately 700 students, providing almost a century of secondary schooling in the South Taranaki District. 

Situated in the heart of Hawera, we are a well-resourced school that offers a wide range of academic, vocational, arts, cultural and sporting opportunities to our students and we are proud of our many successes in growing good citizens, with qualifications and skills for their futures.

Voted the second best region in the world by Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2017, Taranaki has an abundance of delights to ignite all senses. The dairy and oil sectors are prominent industries that surround Hawera, which is just an hour’s drive from New Plymouth and Whanganui.The mighty Mount Taranaki stands tall in sight of the school and with Surf Highway 45 within minutes, the region is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. Enjoy skiing, climbing our beautiful maunga, swimming, surfing or fishing at our local black sand beaches. Not only is the region rich in its native beauty, there is also an abundance of significant historical sites for local Maori as well as cultural sites to embrace, such as Tawhiti Museum and Aotea Utanganui - Museum of South Taranaki, and the world famous Patea Maori Club.
