HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Hauora (Physical Education and Wellbeing) is compulsory at Hawera High School for students in Year 9 and 10. At Year 9, the focus is on developing a wide range of movement skills, in a variety of activities, whilst learning and applying the Whare Tapa Wha model of Hauora, to enhance their wellbeing. As students progress into Year 10, they will use these skills to further develop their wellbeing and knowledge, to move into NCEA Level One Physical Education.
Our departmental vision evolves around valuing and developing Hauora through critical and holistic thinking, while enjoying challenging and social interactions.
BIOPHYSICAL & SOCIOCULTURAL CONSTRUCTS
At the senior level, students begin to explore in depth the biophysical and sociocultural constructs of a physically active world. There are a range of courses to suit student needs, where students will be challenged both physically and academically. Courses include Physical Education, Sports Studies, Outdoor Recreation and Sports Leadership.
