HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education is compulsory at Hawera High School for students in Year 9 and 10. At Year 9, the focus is on developing a wide range of movement skills in a variety of sports. As students progress into Year 10, they will use these skills to develop strategies and tactics in game situations and to develop the ability to relate to others through communication and co-operation in practical settings.
Our departmental philosophy evolves around valuing physical activity for life while developing motor skills through enjoyment, challenge and participation. Students will develop personal well-being through striving to improve themselves through a range of opportunities given to them.
BIOPHYSICAL & SOCIOCULTURAL CONSTRUCTS
At the senior level, students begin to explore in depth the biophysical and sociocultural constructs of a physically active world. There are a range of courses to suit student needs where students will be challenged both physically and academically. Courses include Physical Education, Sports Studies, Outdoor Recreation and Sports Leadership.
